Where Your Energy Bill Is Actually Going

Why Ductwork Leaks Matter

Conditioned air often escapes through gaps and loose seams in ductwork before it ever reaches a living space. A typical home loses a meaningful share of its conditioned air to leaks, holes, and poor connections, which forces the furnace and air conditioner into longer cycles just to hit the thermostat setting. Bonsky Heating and Cooling provides air duct sealing services throughout Uniontown, Stark County, and Summit County to close those gaps and balance airflow.

Unsealed ducts don’t just waste conditioned air; they can also pull dusty attic air and crawl space dampness directly into a home’s living space. Sealing along metal joints keeps conditioned air where it belongs, which means fewer hot or cold rooms and less strain on the equipment.

What's Included

Air Duct Sealing Built for Your Home

Duct runs stay hidden behind drywall, under subfloors, or across attic rafters, so a leak can go unnoticed for years. The only symptom might be a room that never quite feels right, along with dust that builds up faster than it should or a climbing energy bill.

Standard duct tape isn’t built for this. Its adhesive dries out and turns brittle within a few years of Ohio’s seasonal swings. We use commercial mastic paste and foil-faced butyl tape that meet UL 181 standards, applied over reinforcing mesh across seams and connection collars, which stays flexible for decades without peeling.

Inspection to Verification

Our Air Duct Sealing Process

Locating and sealing leaks properly takes a thorough inspection and durable materials, so every visit follows the same steps.

Static Pressure Assessment

We inspect accessible duct runs and test static pressure to see how much conditioned air is actually escaping.

Seam Preparation

We clean dust and oil from sheet metal joints, including the main supply and return boxes, so the seal actually bonds.

Sealing

We apply mastic paste and reinforced mesh over every seam, elbow, and branch connection.

Airflow Verification

We run the system to confirm balanced airflow at every register and check that the seal is holding.

Get Back to What Matters

With your air ducts sealed, you can return to enjoying the comfort and convenience of your home.

Beyond Duct Sealing

Other Air Quality Services We Provide

Sealing addresses one specific source of leaks, but it’s not the only piece of a healthy duct system. Depending on what your home needs, that could mean cleaning, structural repair, or a full duct installation.

The Limits of Sealing

When Sealing Isn't Enough

Manual sealing reaches exposed ductwork in basements, crawl spaces, and open attics, but it can’t do anything for ducts enclosed inside finished ceilings or interior walls without removing drywall first.

Sealing also isn’t the answer when duct runs have physically collapsed, rusted through, developed mold inside an insulated liner, or were undersized to begin with. Sealing an undersized trunk can actually increase static pressure and restrict airflow further. In those cases, we explain honestly why partial or full duct replacement is the safer long-term fix.

Materials and Durability

Air Duct Sealing FAQs

Sealing work raises its own set of practical questions, especially around materials and how long it lasts. We’ve covered what we hear most below.

How do I know if my ductwork has leaks?

Uneven room temperatures, excessive dust, weak airflow at the vents, and rising utility bills are common signs, sometimes along with a faint whistle near a seam when the blower kicks on.

Cleaning removes dust and debris from inside the ducts. Sealing physically closes holes, cracks, and disconnected joints. Both matter, but they solve different problems.

Standard tape’s adhesive dries out and turns brittle within a few years under attic heat and winter cold. Mastic paste and UL 181-rated foil tape hold up for decades instead.

Applied properly with reinforcing mesh, mastic sealant typically lasts 20 years or more, staying flexible through seasonal temperature swings without cracking.
